2020 Democratic presidential hopeful John Delaney of Maryland discussed his campaign and responded to his party's move to the left.

Speaking with David Webb on Fox Nation, Delaney said that Democrats "made a mistake as a party by not focusing on kitchen table issues."

"I'm a Democrat because I grew up in a trade-union kind of family," he said, adding that the party used to fight for jobs and infrastructure funding.

He said that one of his top priorities is to stabilize prescription drug pricing and make prescription drugs more affordable for working families.

Webb noted that such ideas are not often discussed in the rest of the Democratic field, where he said former Rep. Robert "Beto" O'Rourke (D-Texas) campaigns in support of tearing down border barriers and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) pushes "socialist" policy platforms.

Delaney said he supported President Clinton's economic platform, which he summarized as the government not penalizing top-tier earners, but "focus[ing] on people who are falling behind."

Webb said traditional "liberal values" are "nonexistent for the most part" and that Delaney's statements are a reminder of where the party used to stand.

Delaney however criticized President Trump, saying that he "has not delivered on a lot of his promises."

He also criticized the Democrats' new rubric for deciding who gets invited to debates.

Delaney said that candidates must receive tens of thousands of small-dollar donations to qualify -- a feat he said he is behind on.

Delaney formerly represented the conservative Maryland panhandle and some liberal Washington suburbs from 2013-2019.
