'It Really Is Quite Insane': Ben Shapiro on Beto, Dems' Radical Positions on Late-Term Abortion
Author and Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro called out the insanity of Democrats on abortion after Beto O'Rourke seemingly endorsed the practice of third-trimester abortions earlier this week.
Speaking on Wednesday in New Hampshire, the former Texas congressman was again asked to clarify his stance on late-term abortions and was asked how he would have voted on a failed Senate bill that would have protected babies who survive failed abortions
"I would have voted with those women to make their own decisions about their own bodies," he responded.
Shapiro said O'Rourke's position, along with most of the 2020 hopefuls, is far outside the mainstream, noting a poll that showed just 13 percent of Americans support third-trimester abortions
"It really is quite insane. The fact that Beto O’Rourke and every other major Democrat feel forced to embrace this position that you have to be for abortion up to and sometimes beyond the point of birth, it just demonstrates the radicalism of the Democrat Party," he said on "Fox & Friends."
He added that is "amazing" to see the media now treating the notion of late-term abortions as "mainstream."
Shapiro also reacted to New Zealand's ban on "military-style semi-automatic weapons" after last week's attack that killed 50 people at two mosques.
"It’s an emotional, reasonable answer, but it’s not a factually reasonable answer," said Shapiro, noting that the country had 1.2 million guns in 2017 and only had 35 murders, many of them occurring without a gun.
"They’re now talking about criminalizing presumably hundreds of thousands of New Zealand citizens who don’t turn over their guns in response to an isolated incident statistically. ... That seems like a bad policy," he added.
