Fox Nation Former Clinton Adviser: Far-Left Policies Will Be 'Heavy Baggage' for 2020 Dem Hopefuls

On Fox Nation's "Maria Bartiromo's Insiders," former Clinton adviser Mark Penn said the socialist policies that many Democratic candidates and lawmakers have adopted will hurt the party in the 2020 election.
He pointed out that many of the prominent Democratic presidential candidates have stated their support for far-left proposals like the Green New Deal, Medicare-for-all and a tax on the wealthy of up to 70 percent.
"Unrealistic policies are going to be a strong negative come November of 2020. I think that's clear," Penn said.
He said that many Americans agree that something should be done to address climate change, health care and income inequality, but the specific policies Democrats are advocating for will be "heavy baggage."
"And presidential candidates, I think, ultimately know that," Penn said. "They have to play in the primary to get to the general, and that's what they're doing."
Bartiromo asked Penn about the influence that freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is now wielding in the party.
She noted that on "Sunday Morning Futures" she spoke to Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), who argued that the self-described Democratic socialist is essentially House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-Calif.) "co-speaker."
Penn said he doesn't understand why Pelosi hasn't effectively reassembled her caucus, asserted her power and gotten down to the business of legislating.
"The public wants things done. They don't want fights and intra-party fights. They don't want a repeat of what they saw with the Republicans."
