'Purely Political': Rep. Gaetz Rips Dems for 'Endless, Unfocused' Trump Investigations
Rep. Nadler launches expansive Trump probe.
Rep. Matt Gaetz slammed Democrats for pursuing "endless, unfocused investigations" of President Trump and his administration.
On Monday, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) announced the committee served document requests to 81 agencies, entities and individuals, as part of a new probe into "alleged obstruction of justice, public corruption, and other abuses of power by President Trump."
Nadler said the investigation was necessary to make sure the Trump administration is not a dictatorship, signaling that Democratic leaders are not counting on Special Counsel Robert Mueller's forthcoming report on possible Russia collusion to mark the end of such investigations.
Additionally, Rep. Richard Neal, the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, is expected to eventually try to obtain Trump's tax returns, which the president has refused to release.
On "The Ingraham Angle" Monday, Gaetz (R-Fla.), a staunch Trump supporter, said Nadler launched the investigatory equivalent of "fishing with dynamite."
He said Democrat-led investigations are "purely political," and are intended to destabilize the Trump presidency and distract the president from implementing his agenda.
"What Democrats know is if Donald Trump has the opportunity to challenge the bureaucracy, to end wars, to deregulate and then reinvigorate the American economy, he's gonna be reelected because the American people are going to be doing better," Gaetz said.
He said Democrats' only hope at preventing a second Trump term is to "tweezer through" every element of his personal and professional life in the hopes that the American people care more about Trump than they do about their own future.
"I'm betting on people to actually vote their own interests, and not follow just the endless saga of endless investigations with no focus, no end in sight, just a desire to distract."
