Trump on Green New Deal: 'This Is the New Dem Platform, And I Don't Want to Talk Them Out of It'
President Trump spoke Saturday at CPAC and blasted the Green New Deal, a comprehensive environmentalist plan forwarded by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.).
"The Green New Deal, or whatever the hell they call it, I encourage it," Trump said with a note of sarcasm. "No planes, no energy... When the wind stops blowing, that's the end of your electric[ity]."
"This is the new Democratic platform... I don't want to talk them out of it," he said. "I just want to be the Republican who runs against them."
Trump riffed on several supporters or potential supporters of the deal, including Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii).
Trump recalled a reporter asking Hirono about the plan last month:
"The crazy female senator from Hawaii -- what she said about men [during the Kavanaugh hearings] was so bad," Trump said.
"[She recently said] I don't know how people are going to get to Hawaii [under the deal], but I'm in favor of the plan."
Trump said the deal is emblematic of socialism, adding that socialism is "not about the environment and not about justice."
"America will never be a socialist country," he said.
Trump also garnered attention during the speech, when he went on a riff about the Russia probe, characterizing part of the investigation as "bull***t."
"Robert Mueller never received a [popular] vote, and neither did the person who appointed him," Trump said.
