Ingraham: Dems in Freak-Out Mode After Their 'Perfect Trump-Inspired Hate Crime' Fizzled
In her "Angle" commentary Friday night, Laura Ingraham said it's outrageous that major political and media figures are attempting to excuse Jussie Smollett's alleged hate crime hoax.
She said many on the left were "positively giddy" to report on the Jan. 29 incident, in which Smollett -- a black and gay actor known for his role on "Empire" -- was allegedly harassed and beaten by Trump supporters.
"You had a noose, you had a racial and anti-gay slur. It was the politically perfect storyline that pushed all the right anti-Trump buttons," Ingraham said.
Smollett was charged in Chicago Thursday with disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report. According to police, Smollett paid two men $3,500 to stage the attack to promote his career and because he was dissatisfied with his salary.
Some liberals, however, are still not criticizing Smollett. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) said Thursday night she cannot yet "make sense" of what happened.
"There are still some questions that we have, some answers that have to be given," she said at an event.
Others, including comedian D.L. Hughley, argued in response to Smollett's arrest that Trump often lies without consequences.
Ingraham said Democrats are in "total freak-out mode" because Trump's policies are actually working, it appears that the Mueller report may be a dud and liberal "heroes" like Smollett are self-combusting.
"Their dream of the perfect Trump-inspired hate crime has also fizzled," Ingraham said, arguing that Democrats only offer African-Americans "race-baiting and "fearmongering."
"If they keep it up, emotionally worn out African-American voters may do what Democrats fear most: tune them out and focus on Trump's record of accomplishment in their communities."
