Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) said Monday that former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe should have sought the removal of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who proposed wearing a wire to record President Trump.

McCabe told "60 Minutes" that Rosenstein was "absolutely serious" about recording Trump following James Comey's firing in 2017. He also confirmed in the interview that he ordered an obstruction of justice probe against the president.

"I was very concerned that I was able to put the Russia case on absolutely solid ground in an indelible fashion that were I removed quickly and reassigned or fired, that the case could not be closed or vanish in the night without a trace," McCabe told Scott Pelley.

King said it was "absolutely disgraceful" for the #2 official at the Justice Department to propose the idea of wearing a wire and McCabe should have reacted by considering "locking Rosenstein up" or seeking his removal.

Rosenstein has denied he "pursued or authorized recording the president" and also has denied McCabe's suggestion that they discussed invoking the Constitution's 25th Amendment to potentially remove Trump from office.

Trump reacted to McCabe's interview Sunday night, tweeting that he was telling "so many lies" and that his story is now "even more deranged."

King said he supports Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham on issuing subpoenas to McCabe and Rosenstein to discuss what occurred before Congress.

"Everyone who was in that room should be put under oath and should be asked, 'what were they thinking?'" King demanded.

King said he was also bothered that Pelley did not seem "stunned" by McCabe's revelations about the potential removal of the president of the United States.

"Somehow they were carrying on a discussion as if this was an ordinary political or governmental event. This is probably the first time in the history of the country where you had top law enforcement officers, in effect, seeing how they could remove the president," he said.

A spokeswoman for McCabe said the former FBI official never participated in any "extended discussions" about using the 25th Amendment.
