NY Assemblywoman Rips AOC for Cheering Amazon Withdrawal: 'No Idea How the Economy Works'
A New York Republican lawmaker slammed the Democrats who are taking a victory lap after Amazon’s decision to drop plans for a New York City headquarters.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Amazon cited the lack of cooperation from certain elected officials as part of its reason to leave New York.
"For Amazon, the commitment to build a new headquarters requires positive, collaborative relationships with state and local elected officials who will be supportive over the long-term," Amazon said in its statement.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) -- an outspoken opponent of the new headquarters -- tweeted that "anything is possible" and blasted "Amazon's corporate greed."
Anything is possible: today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world. https://t.co/nyvm5vtH9k

On "Fox & Friends" Friday, Nicole Malliotakis said people who opposed the new Amazon headquarters "have no idea how the economy works."
Malliotakis, a member of the State Assembly who ran for New York City mayor last year, pointed out that New York City is losing 25,000 jobs that would pay on average $150,000 per year, in addition to roughly $27 billion in tax revenue over the next 20 years.
She acknowledged that the deal -- which would have given Amazon $3 billion in tax subsidies from the city and state -- was far from perfect, but lawmakers should have worked to improve the deal instead of let it get blown up.
"There was definitely a better deal to be made, but you had the leftists -- led by Ocasio-Cortez and radical members of the New York City Council -- who are anti-capitalist," Malliotakis said. "They didn't want anything, they just didn't want Amazon to be here."
She called out Ocasio-Cortez in particular, noting that the freshman congresswoman called for guaranteed jobs for all in her initial Green New Deal roll-out, but now she's celebrating chasing jobs out of her district.
"It really is insanity. This is socialism for you," Malliotakis said noting leftists are only interested in creating government jobs.
