Rove Rips Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal: 'A Laundry List of Lunatic Ideas'
Democratic Party taken over by 'nutty left,' Rove says.
Fox News contributor Karl Rove blasted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's Green New Deal, saying the progressive proposal is "a laundry list of lunatic ideas."
The resolution, which aims to combat climate change and transition the U.S. to completely clean, renewable energy by 2030, has been widely scrutinized.
A since-disavowed FAQ document circulated by the Ocasio-Cortez office included lines such as promising a job to “all people of the United States” -- including those “unwilling to work” -- and making the air travel industry obsolete.
Multiple Democratic 2020 candidates such as Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris and Kirsten Gillibrand have endorsed the deal.
On "America's Newsroom" Wednesday, Rove said the Green New Deal is an "ill-conceived scheme," and he said it would devastate the U.S. economy.
"The United States is the only major industrialized country that for most of the last 20 years has kept its CO2 emissions flat or slightly reduced while growing its economy," Rove said.
Host Sandra Smith noted that Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter Wednesday to say that the climate change battle is "life and death for us."
Don’t mess with our future.
When it comes to climate, it’s all our lives at stake. The younger you are, the more consequences you’ll see.
It’s life and death for us.
And we will fight like it. https://t.co/jlyFGkzCUW

"She's got in there a guaranteed federal job, everybody has to be paid a union wage, we're going to retrofit every house, we're going to transform manufacturing and agriculture, God knows what that means," Rove said. "This is a laundry list of lunatic ideas."
He noted that even many on the left have acknowledged that the proposal is a complete mess and said that Democrats should not be endorsing it.
"Republicans had better take this seriously and pursue it for the next year-and-a-half, because it will help them paint the Democratic Party for what it is, which is taken over by the nutty left."
