Pollster and former Hillary Clinton adviser Mark Penn said Saturday that he believes Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's "Green New Deal" would ruin the country.

The radical resolution, according to an FAQ from Ocasio-Cortez's office that was obtained by NPR, aims to tackle climate change, in part, by making air travel obsolete.

It would move the United States to rely solely on renewable energy and also promises "economic security for all who are unable or unwilling to work."

Penn said on Fox & Friends that the proposal appears to be a bit more "red" than "green" and is not serious.

"This would not be incredible. This would ruin America. It wouldn't make America greener," he said.

He said that he believes there will be serious 2020 candidates who will knock down Ocasio-Cortez's proposal.

Penn added that he was disappointed in New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker -- a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate -- for endorsing such an idea.

"I think it's a disappointment that this is the way that Democrats are putting the party forward first, but I don't think that's how it's gonna end up," he said. "Most Democratic voters wouldn't endorse a deal like this whatsoever."
