Rep. Biggs on Whitaker Hearing: Democrats Just Want to 'Embarrass President Trump'
'If you want the truth, you're not going to find it here today.'
Rep. Andy Biggs said Democrats are using Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker's hearing before Congress to advance their anti-President Trump agenda.
"They're trying to ... just get some information to embarrass President Trump," Biggs (R-Ariz.) said on "Outnumbered Overtime" Friday during a recess. "That is what this is all about."
He argued that Democrats are using supposed congressional oversight of the Justice Department as a "ruse" or a "bait-and-switch" to go after Trump.
He noted that Whitaker declined to answer questions from Republican and Democratic lawmakers regarding Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, citing the ongoing nature of the probe.
"This is very well-scripted on the part of Acting Attorney General Whitaker," Biggs said. "And it's designed, I think, to frustrate everybody in the whole world who's trying to get to the bottom of things."
"If you want the truth, you're not going to find it here today."
Later at the hearing, the top Republican on the committee blasted Democrat Eric Swalwell for seemingly trying to bolster his 2020 presidential run with his line of questioning.
