Conservative commentator and editor-in-chief of The Daily Wire Ben Shapiro mocked freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's sweeping "Green New Deal" proposal.

The blueprint, unveiled Thursday by Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), calls for a government-led overhaul of virtually every aspect of American life that would guarantee a host of taxpayer-covered benefits for all and phase out fossil fuels.

Ocasio-Cortez's office says the plan would aim to make air travel obsolete, upgrade or replace every building in America to ensure energy efficiency and give economic security even to those "unwilling" to work.

The proposal quickly picked up the backing of major 2020 Democratic presidential hopefuls including Sens. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) -- who all co-sponsored the resolution.

On "The Ben Shapiro Show" Thursday, Shapiro called out a particular passage in the document that addresses potential questions about how to pay for the progressive proposals.

At the end of the day, this is an investment in our economy that should grow our wealth as a nation, so the question isn’t how we will pay for it, but what will we do with our new shared prosperity.

"She's like, 'You know what we're gonna do? We're gonna fix everything.' How are you gonna do it? 'We just are.' Great plan," Shapiro said.

He said the Democratic Party is "not sending their best," and he paraphrased an infamous Dec. 2015 line from then-candidate Donald Trump.

"We have to shut the Democratic Party down until we can figure out what the hell is going on," Shapiro said.
