Chaffetz on 'Outnumbered': Only Nancy Pelosi Standing in the Way of Deal for Dreamers
Former Utah congressman Jason Chaffetz said Tuesday on Outnumbered that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is the only factor standing in the way of a DACA deal.
Pelosi (D-Calif.) has said she will not support a deal for recipients of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in exchange for the funds President Trump is seeking to build a border wall.
One of the speaker's guests at Tuesday's State of the Union address will reportedly be a DACA recipient who came to the U.S. from Guatemala when she was nine.
"I wish the place was filled with DACA recipients," said Chaffetz, a Fox News contributor. "Let them understand that it's only Nancy Pelosi that stands in their way of being in a better place than they are today."
He said that Trump is "bending over backwards" to help DACA recipients. Last September, the president's administration gave Congress six months to pass the DREAM Act, which would have provided a path to citizenship for DACA recipients.
Among congressional Democrats, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) invited the activist who shouted down former Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake over his support of Brett Kavanaugh to Tuesday's speech.
New Jersey Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman's guest will be an undocumented immigrant who was fired from Trump National Golf Club, and Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley has invited a Guatemalan mother and daughter who separated for two months after being denied asylum in the United States.
Katie Pavlich added that Trump could showcase some of the guests brought to his speech to show who is benefiting from his policies.
"I think you can also show that there's a stark contrast between Democrats and Republicans by who they invite," she said, noting that the president has invited the family of an elderly couple that was murdered by an illegal immigrant.
