In her "First Thoughts" monologue on Fox Nation Monday morning, Tomi Lahren argued that elected leaders who want to run for president should have to resign from their current posts before launching their campaigns.
"Why should they be able to waste their constituents' time and money campaigning for a new job?" Tomi said.
She noted that several Democrats who have announced their 2020 candidacy are current office-holders, including Senators Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.).
She acknowledged that it's not just Democrats, however, saying it's a "load of crap" that any lawmakers use taxpayer-funded time to campaign for president.
"If they lose ... then they go right back to the job that wasn't good enough but now will do? That's a giant slap in the face. They risk nothing while their constituents take a back seat," Tomi said.
She said if candidates had to give up their current positions, they would think twice about running, which would simplify the "primary circus."
"There are a lot of things that should be adjusted when it comes to terms, campaigns and politicians in general, but this seems like a no-brainer."
