Turning Point USA's Candace Owens joined David Webb on Fox Nation's "Reality Check" to open up about her transformation from Democrat to "Trump Republican."

Owens said she, like many in the black community, grew up believing she was supposed to be liberal and a Democratic voter, and she found that belief was only reinforced by the public education system.

"I had to adjust myself and recognize that I was wrong," Owens said, revealing that she registered as a Republican for the first time for the 2018 midterm elections.

"I consider myself to be a Trump Republican. I think that he is actually neither left nor right, he's disruptive," Owens said. "And there needed to be a more disruptive candidate to actually talk about the issues and not be fearful of these labels like racism and sexism, and say to black America, 'What do you have to lose?'"

She argued that the left has "negatively harmed" the black community over the years, while the right has not done enough to "correct course."

"We have to go back and re-educate ourselves about our history," Owens said. "We were actually doing the best when we were implementing conservative principles."
