Sen. Blackburn Calls for Action After Illegal Immigrant Is Charged in Fatal TN Crash
Suspected illegal swerved into oncoming traffic, police say.
Sen. Marsha Blackburn said it's time to finally solve the problem of border security following the tragic death of a 22-year-old Tennessee man who was killed when a suspected illegal immigrant allegedly swerved into oncoming traffic.
Pierce Kennedy Corcoran, the son of Knoxville Fire Department Captain D.J. Corcoran, was killed in a head-on car crash by 44-year-old undocumented immigrant Franco Cambrany Francisco-Eduardo last month, according to the Knoxville Police Department.
Francisco-Eduardo was charged with criminally negligent homicide and driving without a license or insurance, and he was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“It is devastating. And, of course, we grieve and mourn with these families that have lost loved ones to illegal immigration," Blackburn said on "Fox & Friends" Monday. "And every time I meet with an Angel Mom, my heart just breaks. And this is why every town’s a border town and every state’s a border state until we secure that southern border."
She said this incident reinforces that President Trump is "so right" in his demand for $5.6 billion in border security funding, including for his long-promised border wall, which has led to a two-week-plus partial government shutdown.
"President Trump is so right in standing firm with millions of Americans who are saying, ‘Let’s solve this issue,'" Blackburn said. "Leader McConnell is correct to say, ‘We’re not going to take up something in the Senate unless it includes border wall funding.'"
She pointed out that both Trump and McConnell have signaled that a fix for the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program is "on the table" in exchange for border security funding.
"The president is saying and Leader McConnell is saying, 'Let’s solve this problem,'" Blackburn said. "I don’t understand why Speaker Pelosi will not come to the table and negotiate and find a way to secure the border and to end the uncertainty around the Dreamers.”
