A Florida community is mourning the loss of a beloved K9 officer that was fatally shot at a mall on Monday.

As Fox News reported, the dog named Cigo is being credited with saving the life of deputies at The Mall at Wellington Green.

Palm Beach Sheriff Ric Bradshaw said that Cigo helped stop the threat of "two very, very dangerous people."

The 3-year-old K9 reportedly pursued a 28-year-old suspect who fled after another teenage suspect immediately surrendered to authorities.

"He did his job and saved those deputies' lives," Bradshaw said, who also called Cigo's loss "very unfortunate."

Cigo was hospitalized in serious condition after being struck but later died of his injuries.
