House Freedom Caucus member Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said Democrats' stern opposition to the border wall shows the party would rather stop President Trump than help the country.

"This is common sense," he said, adding that top Democrats like Sen. Chuck Schumer have voted in favor of border wall funding in the past without concern.

He noted that soon-to-be House Speaker Nancy Pelosi claimed House Republicans didn't have the votes to pass the wall funding, but the measure passed Thursday night with $5.7 billion to fund the wall.

Jordan said the left is "more focused on stopping the president than they are in helping the country."

He added that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell should get rid of the filibuster rule that requires 60 votes to pass legislation, noting Republicans still have a majority in the Senate.

However, retiring Sen. Bob Corker went home to Chattanooga by Friday, as he had warned his colleagues, therefore endangering the slim majority the Republicans hold until a handful of new members are sworn in next month.

The government could be partially shut down at midnight Friday if a spending bill is not passed by the Senate and signed by President Trump.
