Fox Nation host Tomi Lahren urged President Trump to stand strong on his demand for funding for border security and his long-promised wall.

Trump last week said he is willing to let the government shut down if Congress doesn't include $5 billion in funding for border security -- including his long-promised border wall -- in a year-end spending bill.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders, however, seemed to back off that position Tuesday, telling Fox News that the White House could support a compromise short-term spending bill to avoid a shutdown, while looking at "other ways" of getting $5 billion for border security.

"We need to be funding this wall. It's the best $5 billion this government has ever spent. And I'm urging Donald Trump to hold firm on his promise," Tomi said on "Fox & Friends" Wednesday.

She said Trump's gut instincts were right during a White House meeting with Democratic leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer last week when he stated he would let the government shut down over the lack of border security funding.

"If we need a government shutdown in order to show this country that we are serious about border enforcement and security, then a shutdown is exactly what we need," Tomi said.

"And when President Trump listens to his instincts on this, he is right, which is why he won the election in 2016 and he will win on it again in 2020. But he has to hold firm on this. The American people want a wall."
