Chaffetz on Trump-Pelosi-Schumer Clash: 'I Don't Buy' Dems' Claims They Want Border Security
The "Outnumbered" panel gave us some immediate reaction Tuesday after President Trump's explosive, televised meeting with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi Tuesday over border wall funding.
Trump met with the Democratic leaders at the White House, and he doubled down on his threat to let the government shut down if Congress doesn't approve funding for his long-promised wall at the southern border.
Pelosi and Schumer urged him to have the discussion in private, but Trump insisted on "transparency" and letting the media see the debate.
Afterwards, Pelosi vowed that the next Congress will show great "transparency."
Jason Chaffetz took issue with Pelosi saying she's the one who wants transparency when she tried to shut the media out of the meeting.
"And I also don't buy the Democrats on saying they want to secure the border," Chaffetz said, arguing Democrats wanted to shut down ICE and have encouraged Central American migrant caravans.
Marie Harf said those claims are not true, pointing out that some individual Democrats have called for ICE to be abolished, but not the party as a whole.
As for the claim about the Democratic Party supporting the caravans, she called it "a conspiracy theory that has been repeatedly debunked online."
