Fresh off her election as GOP conference chairwoman, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said on "Fox & Friends" Thursday she looks forward to combating the message of Nancy Pelosi and a wave of newly-elected far-left Democrats.

In her new role, Cheney - the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney - will be the only woman in the House Republican leadership and will lead the party's communications strategy after Democrats take over House control in two months.

She said Thursday the country is at a "hinge-point," and Republicans cannot let Democrats slow down the economic momentum of the past two years. Cheney said the Democrats are not off to an "auspicious" start after Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez joined with activists for a sit-in outside Pelosi's office to push for climate change action.

Meantime, a larger group of incoming Democrats have said they will not support Pelosi's Speaker bid, putting her election in jeopardy.

"I'm sure that Minority Leader Pelosi likes the new energy coming in. The problem is most of the new energy happens to be socialists. That's certainly not a recipe for success for the nation or for her party," she said.

Cheney said it was a special moment Wednesday to have her father, who served in the same House leadership position more than 30 years ago, in Washington, D.C. for the election.

"I said, 'Dad, what's your biggest advice for this position?' He said, 'Liz, just don’t screw this up.' So I'm going to do my best," she joked

In the party leadership vote, California Rep. Kevin McCarthy beat back a challenge from dark horse candidate, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, and will be House minority leader in January.
