Former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer said President Trump scored a big win when a federal judge tossed out Stormy Daniels' defamation lawsuit, but Trump detracted from his victory by bashing Daniels and her attorney Michael Avenatti on Twitter.

A federal judge in Los Angeles on Monday threw out a defamation lawsuit by Daniels and ordered Daniels to pay the president's legal fees.

Trump took a victory lap on Twitter Tuesday, calling Daniels “Horseface” and threatening to “go after” her and Avenatti

"This is where the president is his own worst enemy," Fleischer said on "America's Newsroom." "He's in the middle of a victory and he takes it down a few notches by engaging in that kind of unnecessary rhetoric."

He said calling a person "horseface" is just not something that the president of the United States should be doing, likening it to when Trump mocked MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski as "low-I.Q., Crazy Mika" and ridiculed her supposed face-lift.

"The president can counterpunch so hard, he often hits himself," Fleischer said, noting that Trump had been more disciplined on that front in recent months.

"And here he is again returning to that type of mistaken over-tweet. I wish he wouldn't engage like that. It just diminishes what is a proper victory. Instead of hitting a home run, he's now hit a double."

Daniels, an adult film star whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, says she had an affair with Trump. She sued the president in April over a tweet in which he denied her claims of being threatened by a man in a Las Vegas parking lot in 2011.

She tweeted back to Trump Wednesday morning, calling him "Tiny."
