A Republican who's running for a seat in the Vermont House of Representatives is claiming to have received a letter with death and rape threats from an alleged socialist.

Deserae Morin, of Colchester, published a photo of the vulgar letter -- comprised of cut-out block letters -- on her Facebook page over the weekend.

The letter read, in part, "My comrades will kill you and the Constitution. ... Socialism is here. Open season for Republican death in Vermont."

Morin is running for office for the first time and said that some of the eerie letter was made using material from her campaign.

“I’m really not surprised by the letter, considering everything that is happening in our country right now,” she told The Daily Caller. “We see calls for aggressiveness from prominent Democrats and acts of radical leftist violence happening regularly and with increasing intensity. But I will admit that I never expected this to happen to me. For me this is about Liberty vs Totalitarianism. This is fascism in action, subscribe to my ideology or face violence.”

She said she believes the perpetrator was a local because her own campaign materials were used on the envelope.

"It feels very real and menacing when you know the threat is so close," she said.

Morin's Facebook post was met with mixed reaction, with some condemning the violent rhetoric and others suggesting Morin could have created the letter herself.

Vermont State Police are investigating the alleged threats.

UPDATE: Morin joined "Fox & Friends" Wednesday, telling Steve Doocy and Ainsley Earhardt that she believes whoever sent the letter had some type of contact with her at an event because campaign materials were enclosed.

"It was threatening Republicans in general. If I didn't say something and someone else got hurt, I would never be able to live with that," she said.

Morin said her platform of lower taxes, small government and individual liberty is one that average Americans can get behind. She said she believes she was targeted because she's a young woman who "dared" to join the Republicans.

"Socialism is the hot sell right now and we're gonna eat the rich and if you have more than me, I'm gonna take it," said Morin.
