In his opening monologue Thursday night, Sean Hannity slammed "smear merchants" on the left for their opposition to Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Hannity said that Kavanaugh -- who has emphatically denied several allegations of sexual assault -- has gone through an extensive, thorough vetting process, including a supplemental background check into Dr. Christine Ford's allegation against Kavanaugh.

After the FBI released its report to lawmakers, some Senate Democrats are in "full-on freak out mode," Hannity said.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said the FBI's investigation was "all too limited," Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) said it "smacks of a whitewash, even a cover-up," and Sen. Bob Menendez (D-N.J.) called it a "bulls*** investigation."

Hannity said these lawmakers already stood in opposition to Kavanaugh, as they would for any nominee President Trump put forth.

He said the calls for a more thorough investigation are "beyond absurd," and they are part of Democrats' transparent delay tactics.

"What else is the FBI supposed to do? We don't have a location to investigate, no date to investigate, there's no physical evidence, there's no forensic evidence ... and every single person that Dr. Ford listed to corroborate her story denied any knowledge of her claims," Hannity pointed out.

He said Democrats are playing politics with Kavanaugh's nomination because they are still upset Trump won in 2016, and they are turning the confirmation process into a "national disgrace" by attempting to destroy a man and his family without evidence.

"The smear machine of the left is in full gear. They know no bounds."
