Maria Bartiromo interviewed Vice President Mike Pence in a wide-ranging exclusive interview that will air SUNDAY at 10 AM ET on "Sunday Morning Futures" on Fox News Channel.

Bartiromo asked Pence about the recent economic news as well as the actions of the Federal Reserve.

Pence said Americans should put in context the disparity between the economic growth seen under the Trump-Pence administration and that of the Obama-Biden and Bush-Cheney eras.

"In the last two administrations, the economy grew by less than 2 percent," Pence said. "In the first 18 months of this administration, we were a little shy of last year, but were on track to be at 3 percent or better this year."

This week, the Commerce Department announced that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew by 4.1 percent in the second quarter of 2018.

Pence also discussed the Federal Reserve's decision to raise interest rates.

"[President Trump] said you know it's crazy that the Federal Reserve is going to be raising interest rates.  The economy's so great, why not raise interest rates?" Pence said.

He said he and Trump respect the "independence" of the Fed, but added that the White House does not want policies from Chairman Jerome Powell or lawmakers on Capitol Hill that could "diminish the tremendous energy that we have in this economy today."
