Tucker Carlson reported Thursday night that former CIA Director John Brennan still has a top-secret government security clearance, according to two sources.

He explained that the security clearance gives Brennan the power to view classified government documents, discuss classified topics with intelligence officials and view highly personal information on American citizens.

Carlson noted that Brennan, who no longer works for the federal government in any capacity, has been an outspoken critic of President Trump and champion of the Democratic Party.

"Brennan is an out-of-the-closet extremist," Carlson said. "Brennan is also a passionate ideologue with a documented history of dishonesty."

He added that Brennan isn't the only "reckless partisan" who has retained a security clearance after leaving the government, pointing out that former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director Michael Hayden appear to have done the same.

"In case you were wondering how classified information winds up in the media in a near-daily basis. ... Now you have some sense," Carlson said.

He argued that as long as people like Brennan, Clapper and Hayden have security clearances, questions will remain about the "deep state," a permanent government that acts independently of voters and democracy itself.
