A New York man was arrested after he threatened to kill supporters of a Republican congressman and President Trump and nearly ran over a campaign volunteer Friday.

According to Suffolk County Police, Martin Astrof, 75, was arrested following a heated confrontation with a campaign worker at Rep. Lee Zeldin’s congressional campaign headquarters in Nesconset at approximately 11:15 a.m. on Friday.

Authorities said that after making threats, Astrof backed his car up in an “aggressive manner,” nearly striking the worker before driving home. He has been charged with making a terroristic threat and second-degree reckless endangerment.

Zeldin and campaign volunteer Donato Panico joined Pete Hegseth on "Fox & Friends" on Monday to discuss the incident and the lack of civility in politics.

Zeldin said it's "ridiculous" that Panico was made to fear for his life simply because of his political beliefs and activism.

"There's no First Amendment right where you're threatening to kill supporters of President Trump and myself. There's no First Amendment right to get into a vehicle and try to run him over," Zeldin said.

He said the shooting at a congressional baseball practice in June 2017 -- which left House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) gravely wounded -- should have been a wake-up call, but instead the rhetoric from the left has been escalating.

"We can't be fearful of these people," Zeldin said, explaining that it's important for Americans to be active in politics with November's midterms looming.

Panico, a deli owner who helped feed first responders after the attacks of 9/11, said he won't let these type of threats deter him from supporting Zeldin and the president.

"I was there the next morning bright and early, and I'm not backing down," Panico said.
