Ingraham: Dems Are 'Straining for Relevance' With 'Off-Key' Push to Abolish ICE
In her Angle commentary, Laura Ingraham said that the Democratic Party is "straining for relevance" with its calls to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Ingraham said that the Democrats' only recourse is to "demonize" President Trump for his zero tolerance border policy as his approval numbers rise.
"[Democrats are] tripping all over themselves to align with that millennial socialist," Ingraham said Monday night, referencing socialist Democrat Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, the 28-year-old who defeated incumbent Rep. Joe Crowley in New York’s 14th Congressional District primary.
Ingraham said if the left was really worried about migrant children being separated from their parents, they'd attend regular rallies in crime-stricken cities like Chicago and Baltimore.
She said that many of those who protest against ICE seem to confuse the agency with U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which arrests illegal immigrants at the border.
She noted that the president signed an executive order last month to stop families at the border from being separated.
The public isn't buying the Democrats' anti-Trump message, she said, noting a Harvard-Harris poll that showed 70 percent of respondents want stricter enforcement of existing immigration laws.
"If criminals make it over the border, are we just to let them maraud across the country?" she asked. "Good luck on turning that into a platform that actually wins votes."
President Trump also told Fox Business Network's Maria Bartiromo that if ICE were to be eliminated, the country would be in a state where people would be "afraid to walk out of your house.”
He added that he "loves" the fact that Democrats are looking to abolish the agency.
Ingraham said that the Democrats' push to abolish ICE is "dangerous."
"It's as off-key as the entertainment of some of their big rallies over the weekend," she said, referencing rally performers like Lin-Manuel Miranda and John Legend.
Hundreds of anti-ICE rallies were held across the country protesting Trump's zero tolerance border policy.
Ingraham said that original thinking is "eluding" Democrats.
"With every tack to the left, they merely estrange themselves from the vast middle- and working-class of this country, catering only to the progressive elites in Manhattan and Malibu," she said.
