Former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino said Sunday that calls to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will lead to the end of the Democratic Party.

Hundreds of protests were held across the country against ICE Saturday, calling for the reunification of children and their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Bongino said on "Fox & Friends" that President Donald Trump has a "unique ability" to provoke a political overreaction by Democrats.

"Calls to abolish ICE will lead to the abolishment of the Democrat party," he said.

Protesters have resisted the president's controversial "zero-tolerance" policy at the border.

Trump signed an executive order on June 20 to allow migrant children to stay with their parents who were caught illegally crossing the border after national outcry due to families being separated.

Bongino said that Democrats have done a good job of "politically hiding" and making themselves look more moderate.

He said that Democrats' "outrageous" calls to abolish ICE have come from them competing to see who can "have the most fringe, radical position to see more anti-Trump."

"This is who the Democrats have been for 20 years," he said. "They've been about open borders, they've been about high taxes, big government [and] government-controlled health care."
