President Trump answered James Comey's response to the president's intensified attacks on the FBI following reports of a reported informant who infiltrated his 2016 campaign.
Trump called the operation "Spygate" and said it had the potential to be one of the biggest political scandals ever.

He told reporters outside the White House before heading to Long Island, New York, that Comey has “a lot of problems.”
“I did a great service to this country by firing James Comey,” Trump said.

The former FBI director had responded to Trump’s claims on Wednesday, slamming him and the Republican Party for doing "lasting damage" to the United States with their attacks on the FBI.
“How will Republicans explain this to their grandchildren?" Comey wrote on Twitter.
Facts matter. The FBI’s use of Confidential Human Sources (the actual term) is tightly regulated and essential to protecting the country. Attacks on the FBI and lying about its work will do lasting damage to our country. How will Republicans explain this to their grandchildren?

Trump said that many others have shared the same opinion as him regarding Comey's termination, and that Spygate “supersedes” political parties.
“What I want from [Deputy Attorney General] Rod [Rosenstein], from the FBI, from everybody … we want transparency,” Trump said.
He also called Democratic congressional leaders “obstructionists,” but said that he believes they want transparency on the issue as well.
