'Swamp at Its Worst': 'The Five' Reacts to Dems' Accusations That Tanked Trump VA Pick
The panel on "The Five" reacted to White House physician Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson withdrawing his nomination to be the next Veterans Affairs secretary.
The White House announced Thursday that Jackson had withdrawn amid a barrage of criticisms from Washington officials and Democratic senators.
President Donald Trump blasted Montana Sen. Jon Tester (D), saying there was "no proof" to the allegations the Ranking Member of the Veterans Affairs committee was floating.
"For Jon Tester to start bringing up stuff like "candyman"... there's no proof of this," Trump said, referring to claims Jackson handed out sleep aids to officials without proper prescription consideration.
"This is the swamp at its murkiest, disgusting worst," Kimberly Guilfoyle said. "Politics were at play here."
Guilfoyle added that many of the criticisms directed at Jackson came from bureaucrats within the Veterans Affairs department.
Juan Williams questioned that contention, noting that the American legion was one of the groups that criticized Jackson.
Dana Perino floated former Oklahoma Republican Sen. Tom Coburn, a physician, as someone Trump could choose for the post next.
