Turley: Firing Mueller or Rosenstein 'Wouldn't Necessarily Stop' Investigation

Following the FBI raid on President Trump's longtime personal attorney, Michael Cohen, there has been speculation that Trump could fire Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Attorney General Jeff Sessions or Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Cohen's attorney, Stephen Ryan, said raids of his client's offices, home and hotel room were conducted by the U.S. Attorney's office in Manhattan and were based at least partly on a referral from Mueller.

Trump called the raid "disgraceful" and lambasted Mueller's investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia as "an attack on our country."

On "Happening Now," Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) said Mueller was a "disaster" when he served as FBI director and he's just as bad in the role of special counsel.

He said all they're trying to do is get something on Cohen so they can squeeze him into flipping on Trump.

"They will do it. Mueller is corrupt enough," Gohmert said. "People have got to come to the realization Mueller is not an honest, honorable man. He is out to get his people that he doesn't like, and he will do anything to bring them down. So that's what this is about."

He agreed with Trump that the Russia investigation is a "witch hunt" and Mueller should be fired, but he said the president cannot fire Mueller for political reasons.

He noted that multiple Republican lawmakers -- including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) -- have warned Trump that terminating the special counsel would be disastrous for his presidency and could lead to impeachment.

Instead, Gohmert said, Trump should fire Rosenstein and call for the appointment of a second special counsel to look into the Justice Department and FBI's handling of the Hillary Clinton email probe, the Russia investigation and related matters.
