Fiery 'Your State Is a Sanctuary Disaster': Ingraham Battles CA Dem Over Census Backlash
Laura Ingraham battled Rep. Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) in a heated debate Tuesday night over the addition of a citizenship question on the 2020 census.
The state of California promised to sue President Donald Trump's administration over the addition of the question, contending that it will suppress immigrants from responding.
Sherman said the question will create "credible fear in immigrant communities," to which Ingraham asked if he was defending immigrants who are convicted criminals.
"You're defending the rapists, the child abusers, the murderers, the Fentanyl traffickers? Really? Is that what you want to come on this show to do?" she replied.
She added, "We have a criminal alien problem in the United States, and your state is a sanctuary disaster. That's the problem."
State Attorney General Xavier Becerra said of the citizenship question that President Trump and his administration have "failed to learn the consequences of scaring people."
During World War II, the federal govt. used #Census data to identify Japanese-American families for internment. But the #Trump Administration has failed to learn again from history. They’ve failed to learn the consequences of scaring people... #2020Census

"I'm here to tell the truth," Ingraham said to Sherman. "You're here to tell a fantasy about how every illegal immigrant is like a valedictorian rescuing a puppy or cat from the tree."
Sherman said the census asks whether a person is an immigrant, rather than an illegal immigrant. He accused Ingraham of trying to portray illegal immigrants as dangerous, arguing Trump did the same thing in his 2015 speech to announce his candidacy in which he referred to immigrants from Mexico as "rapists."
"This is where Democrats just lose the American people," Ingraham countered.
"You are more worried about illegal immigrants than the legal residents of your own communities. Time and again."
