On "Outnumbered Overtime" on Friday, Arizona Senate candidate Dr. Kelli Ward (R) praised President Donald Trump's CPAC speech, particularly his "very strong" comments on immigration.

Trump drew cheers during his address for assuring that a wall will be built along the southern border and vowing to crack down on chain migration and the diversity visa lottery program.

He also made it a point to call out Democrats for blocking immigration reform legislation and for refusing to engage in negotiations over the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) program.

"He did call out the Democrats because he put a very generous offer on the table and they just shut it down," said Ward, a family physician who is running for retiring Sen. Jeff Flake's (R) seat.

She claimed that Democrats have showed their "true colors" and revealed that they are using the immigration issue for political gain, instead of standing up for the people they were elected to represent.

Ward suggested that there may be a "temporary solution" for the DACA issue, while lawmakers focus on border security.

As for Trump suggesting that he would consider punishing California for its sanctuary city policies, Ward said she agrees with the president that U.S. cities should be "sanctuaries" only for law-abiding American citizens.

"They certainly shouldn't be sanctuaries for a criminal element, people who came here illegally and go to those cities for the basic fact that they know that they won't be taken to task for the bad acts that they perform."
