'Idiotically Out of Touch': Gingrich Blasts Backlash to Trump's 'Americans Are Dreamers' Line
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich blasted Democrats, including House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, for refusing to stand and applaud at Tuesday night's State of the Union address.
"I've never seen anybody so openly disgusted with being there," he noted on "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday, calling out Democrats for refusing to stand for even non-controversial portions of the address.
Gingrich said the best line from the speech was "Americans are dreamers too," though some saw it as a slap from President Trump at illegal immigrants brought here as children.
"Americans are Dreamers too." This line was intentionally divisive.

Pelosi took to Twitter immediately afterwards to respond.

"Some Democrats are so idiotically out of touch with reality that the idea of describing all of us collectively as 'dreamers' is offensive to them because then they'd have to be pro-America," he argued.
Gingrich also offered some advice to the president coming out of the successful night: do not tweet and upset the narrative.
"Stay on message at least through the Sunday talk shows. ... The elite media are gonna be dragging bait in front of him, begging him [to respond]," said Gingrich.
