Ingraham: If Hillary Were President, Media Praise on Economy Would Be 'Deafening'

President Donald Trump delivered his first official State of the Union address in the nation's capital on Tuesday night, .

"Less than one year has passed since I first stood at this podium, in this majestic chamber, to speak on behalf of the American people -- and to address their concerns, their hopes, and their dreams," Trump said in his opening remarks. "That night, our new administration had already taken swift action. A new tide of optimism was already sweeping across our land. Each day since, we have gone forward with a clear vision and a righteous mission: to make America great again for all Americans."

He said the first year of his presidency has included extraordinary successes, along with challenges and hardship.

"But through it all, we have seen the beauty of America's soul, and the steel in America's spine," Trump said.

He called upon the nation to "set aside differences" and to seek out common ground.

"The state of our union is strong because our people are strong," Trump said. "And together, we are building a safe, strong and proud America."

Trump said that the U.S. has finally "turned the page" on decades of unfair trade deals.

"The era of economic surrender is totally over," Trump said.

He also said he is "extending an open hand" to Democrats and Republicans, to protect American citizens. He said his duty is to protect the safety of Americans "of every background, color, religion and creed."

He said the four pillars of his immigration plan are offering a path to citizenship for 1.8 million illegal immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as minors, fully securing the border, ending the visa lottery system and stopping chain migration.

"These four pillars represent a down-the-middle compromise, and one that will create a safe, modern, and lawful immigration system," Trump said.

Trump said it's important for elected officials to never forget that the American people built this great country, and they are the ones who are making America great again.

"As long as we are proud of who we are and what we are fighting for, there is nothing we cannot achieve. As long as we have confidence in our values, faith in our citizens, and trust in our God, we will not fail," Trump said. "Our families will thrive. Our people will prosper. And our nation will forever be safe and strong and proud and mighty and free. Thank you, and God bless America."
