A proposal from the White House to grant a path to citizenship for nearly 2 million so-called Dreamers is a "smack in the face" to legal immigrants, Fox News political analyst Gianno Caldwell argued.

The framework, which President Trump is expected to lay out next week, includes $25 billion in funds for a border wall and would end programs like chain migration and the visa lottery.

Caldwell said it's hard to believe this proposal is coming from Trump, arguing the president is "giving everything away" in this deal.

"No one who supported President Trump or Republicans in general thought that a proposal like this would come from this White House," he said Friday on "Happening Now."

Caldwell argued that the proposal goes "far beyond" a path to citizenship for those who were brought to the U.S. as children "through no fault of their own."

"This makes President Obama's DACA look like a conservative choice," he said, adding the "giveaways" are not going to go over well with much of Trump's base.

"I don't consider myself to be on the far right. I'm more in the middle," said Caldwell, expressing surprise that the left is against this proposal.

Tiffany Cross, founder of TheBeatDC, argued that Trump made an "empty promise" to build a "ridiculous" wall along the southern border.

Cross said it's hard to "nail down" the president's views on immigration, since he will "say one thing on Monday and something different on Thursday."
