"Fox News Sunday" anchor Chris Wallace said President Trump's comment about the U.S. accepting immigrants from "s***hole countries" will make it more difficult to reach a deal on immigration reform.

“Why are we having all these people from s***hole countries come here?” Trump said in a bipartisan meeting, according to multiple people in the room. The statement was confirmed by Fox News.

The Washington Post reported that he singled out Haitians, asking: “Why do we need more Haitians? Take them out."

The remarks drew a firestorm of criticism and accusations that the president is a racist, but Trump took to Twitter to deny the reports this morning.

On "Shepard Smith Reporting" on Friday, Wallace pointed out that many Democrats were already resistant to working with Trump and Republicans to find a compromise on immigration reform.

He explained that many on the left of the party want a "clean" fix for the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, without including funding for a border wall or enhanced border security in the deal.

"I think this is has only added some fuel to their resistance and is going to make it tougher to get a deal," Wallace said.
