Many in the media have been speculating about President Trump's mental stability following the release of a controversial tell-all book about his first months in the White House.

In "Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House," author Michael Wolff wrote that administration officials came to believe Trump was "incapable of functioning in his job," which many in the media quickly ran with.

Trump responded in a series of tweets over the weekend, declaring that he is a "very stable genius," which led to even more speculation about his mental state and fitness for office.

On "Happening Now," media reporter Joe Concha acknowledged that Trump is unorthodox and unconventional, but he said the press shouldn't use that as an excuse to speculate about the 25th Amendment and removing Trump from office.

"A lot of people in this business are going too far," Concha said, singling out MSNBC host Joe Scarborough for suggesting that Trump has early onset dementia during an interview with Wolff on Monday.

He said reporters and pundits should follow the facts and not let their personal feelings interfere with how they cover the president.

"We are treating gossip as gospel now," Concha said. "Michael Wolff has been known over years, over decades, for being allergic to fact-checking. ... I can give dozens of examples of this book being simply gossip. I'm not saying all of it - particularly the parts about Steve Bannon - but this book should not be taken seriously."

Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Judith Miller said she read the book over the weekend and "it's filled with things that really would make people wonder what is going on in the White House."

She also pointed to a new Axios report alleging President Trump is starting his workdays later and holding less meetings while opting for more "Executive Time" where he watches TV, makes phone calls and tweets.
