Ingraham: Border Patrol Agent's Murder 'Better Be the Final Straw for Congress'

Jose Ines Garcia Zarate has been found not guilty of murdering Kate Steinle in San Francisco in July 2015.

Zarate, an illegal immigrant who had been deported multiple times, shot and killed Steinle while she was walking on a San Francisco pier with her father.

Zarate admitted to shooting Steinle, but said it was an accident. He claimed he found a gun on the pier and it "just fired."

The jury reached the not guilty verdict Thursday in the sixth day of deliberations after 12 days of testimony. Zarate was convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The shooting sparked a nationwide debate over illegal immigration and "sanctuary city" policies, which bar local law enforcement officials from cooperating with federal immigration authorities.

Just a few months before the shooting, Zarate was released from a San Francisco jail despite a federal detention request.
