Supermodel Petra Nemcova is working to rebuild schools destroyed by natural disasters after she herself was caught in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Nemcova was hospitalized with serious injuries, including a broken pelvis, after the tsunami impacted Phuket, Thailand, where she was vacationing for Christmas.

She hung onto a tree for eight hours before rescuers arrived. Her fiancee, Simon Atlee, died in the natural disaster, which killed an estimated 250,000 people across more than a dozen countries.

On "Fox & Friends," Nemcova said her organization, All Hearts and Hands, has now helped rebuild 171 schools in 10 countries since 2006. She shared photos and footage on Twitter of a new school just finished in Peru.

She announced that the organization recently merged with another volunteer group to rebuild schools even faster.

Nemcova explained that help is being provided in the Houston area after the devastating flooding from Hurricane Harvey

She said in many places, it can take several years to rebuild a school, leaving children in some countries with nowhere to go for their education.
