President Trump said social media may have put him in the White House.

"I doubt I'd be here if it weren't for social media," Trump said in an interview with Maria Bartiromo on "Sunday Morning Futures."

"There is a fake media out there. I get treated very unfairly by the media."

He said that whenever someone says anything about him he is able to "take care of it" by putting out a statement on social media right away.

"The other way I'd never be able to get the word out."

The president has used his Twitter account especially to refute claims made by the mainstream media as well as to excoriate members of Congress and the media he has a beef with.

"I have friends that say oh, don't use social media," Trump said. "When I put it out, you put it immediately on your show. The other day I put something out. Two seconds later I'm watching your show, it's up."

"I have a tremendous platform," the president added, speaking of his Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media accounts.
