UPDATE: Secretary Tom Price resigned just before 5 p.m. ET.

Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price is under fire for taking costly charter flights to travel to various engagements at taxpayer expense.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday said that he is "not happy" with Price's travel and he let him know it.

Price said Thursday that he would reimburse the government nearly $52,000, describing the repayment as "unprecedented."

On "America's Newsroom," Bill Hemmer asked Chris Stirewalt if Price is on thin ice with the president.

"I don't even know if there's any ice left under him," Stirewalt said.

He said that Trump is very concerned about appearing elitist or out-of-touch, since he's a billionaire, and now a low-level cabinet official is behaving as if he has a private, taxpayer-funded jetliner service.

"That is not going to fly with voters. No way," Stirewalt said.

He added that Price has "embarrassed the president" concurrent with failure of the health care legislation that he was supposed to be spearheading.

"This is, in terms of making the president look bad, this is the worst week possible," he said.
