Tucker on Anthem Protests: 'Shared Belief in USA is the Only Glue That Binds Us'

Tomi Lahren's Final Thoughts: A Free Speech Lesson for NFL Anthem Kneelers

On "Hannity" last night, Newt Gingrich slammed Hillary Clinton for suggesting race played a role in why President Donald Trump criticized NFL players' national anthem protests.

"He attacks black athletes as he did starting with his rally in Alabama, continued on Twitter. And he attacks them for protesting peacefully for equality, for standing up for what they believe. And he does it once again to dog whistle to his base and to try to detract attention from other things that are going on. But it's quite telling that he is willing to attack black athletes," Clinton said on MSNBC's "All In" on Monday.

Sean Hannity pointed out that Trump made it clear that his criticism wasn't based on race, but on the importance of showing respect to our country, flag and national anthem.

"Hillary Clinton is a racist demagogue," Gingrich said. "I mean, let’s be blunt, let’s be straight on about this thing. She can’t possible debate on the merits anything that we’re talking about."

He explained that Clinton is using racism as a "deliberate political weapon" to divide the country on racial grounds.

He argued that modern liberalism can't survive if they don't constantly shift the debate back to race and racism.

"Donald Trump said nothing that had anything to do with race. He talked about defending the flag. He talked about defending our national anthem," Gingrich said. "Now, how you take that and translate it into a racial attack tells you everything you need to know about the sickness of the modern left and the sickness of the Democratic Party."

"They have become one of the most divisive and destructive forces in America today."
