The wife of late Navy SEAL Chris Kyle said the backlash over Melania Trump's fancy heels "stunned" her.

"It took me a while to get my emotions in check," Taya Kyle recalled after seeing the headlines criticizing the first lady for wearing tall snakeskin heels as she boarded Air Force One to visit Hurricane Harvey victims.

The president and first lady visited Texas on Tuesday to offer their support to those affected by the hurricane and gather updates on the rebuilding.

Sometimes "smoke and mirrors," or optics seem to matter more than "just being who we are," the widow of the famous sniper told "Fox & Friends" on Saturday.

"Donald and Melania Trump have money. That's okay with me," she said. "I just want them to do their job. ... I don't need smoke and mirrors to make the optics look better."

"Nobody cares when you're in a crisis who's wearing what," she went on. "What you care about is, do you have a generator? Is your dog safe? Are you going to make it through tomorrow?"

The first couple will make a second visit to Houston Saturday and meet with victims of the storm.
