Terror Strikes Barcelona: 12 Killed When Vehicle Plows Into Crowd
A rental van struck pedestrians in the Las Ramblas tourist area, in the center of the city in what local police are calling a terrorist attack.

An eyewitness told Sky News described the scene, saying "the whole street started to run, screaming."

One suspect is in custody, while a second suspect was killed by police after ramming a police checkpoint in a Ford Focus.
Earlier, local media said police were looking for Driss Oukabir, who rented the van used in the attack.
Police said there was no hostage situation at a nearby restaurant, contrary to some of the initial reporting.
ISIS has encouraged its supporters to use vehicles as weapons in lone-wolf attacks. Attacks of this type have taken place in Nice, France, London, Berlin and Stockholm.
The Las Ramblas area is a popular shopping area normally crowded in the summer with visitors.
