An expert on Asian politics said President Trump's tough talk on North Korea is "pressure diplomacy" and estimated there is only a small chance of the U.S. attacking the Hermit Kingdom.

"Clearly the president and his administration are going to push back against North Korean threats," Meredith Sumpter, Asia director for the Eurasia Group, said.

Sumpter said Trump was engaging in "pressure diplomacy" and "defensive measures" with Pyongyang, when he promised to meet aggression with "fire and fury."

"This was not a president who was threatening a preemptive attack," Sumpter said.

She said Trump was only echoing statements from Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford and Defense Secretary Gen. James Mattis.

Sumpter said there is a ten percent probability at this point that Trump will strike Pyongyang.
