President Donald Trump lashed out at Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) in a tweetstorm Monday after Blumenthal made comments on CNN about the ongoing investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 election.

Trump called the Russia story a "hoax" and accused the senator of lying and being a "phony Vietnam con artist."

Blumenthal responded to Trump's comments a short time later, calling out the president for his "bullying" tactics.

"Your bullying hasn't worked before and it won't work now. No one is above the law," Blumenthal wrote.

He added that this issue isn't about him, but instead Special Counsel Robert Mueller's "independence and integrity" as he investigates Russia's interference in the election and alleged collusion between the Trump team and Moscow.

Trump responded later on Monday, suggesting that Blumenthal take a vacation in Vietnam, since he "lied about his service" there.
