Former Trump advisor Anthony Scaramucci said he warned CNN of legal action if they did not correct a defamatory story linking him to a Russian investor.

The story revolved around a passing meeting Scaramucci had with an investor tied to the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

The report was “frustrating” and “a little unfair," Scaramucci told host Howard Kurtz, but he said he was mostly satisfied with how quickly the network moved to retract the story.

"That story did not meet CNN's editorial standards and has been retracted," CNN said in a statement. "CNN apologizes to Mr. Scaramucci."

The Trump advisor said he realized a while after his first phone call to CNN that the network was still unclear about the facts.

At that point Scaramucci said he made a follow-up phone call and told the network "I’m not under investigation, I’ve done nothing wrong. I sort of feel like you guys have to clear this up, and if you don’t clear it up, then of course I have to take action to protect myself and my reputation."

The media is having an “existential crisis” due to President Trump's election, he said.

Scaramucci was appointed chief strategy officer at the U.S. Export-Import Bank in June.
