Trump to Comey: 'I Need Loyalty, I Expect Loyalty'
Former FBI Director James Comey has released his prepared remarks one day before he testifies before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
In the written testimony, Comey said that Trump personally sought his “loyalty” while also pressing to “lift the cloud” of the investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.
Comey said Trump told him “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty” during a January dinner in the White House.
Comey said he responded, “You will always get honesty from me.”
Trump paused for a moment, he said, then continued, “That’s what I want, honest loyalty."
Comey wrote in a memo after the dinner that he was troubled by the "very awkward conversation."
On "America's News HQ" this afternoon, Catherine Herridge reported that Comey documented virtually every interaction he had with the incoming president.
That included two other meetings with Trump: a January 6th intelligence briefing and a February 14th Oval Office meeting. Comey also had two phone calls with Trump.
"This was simply not something he did with President Obama," Herridge said.
She said the main takeaway from Comey's testimony is that he never felt that Trump was pressuring him to drop the entire FBI investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia, just the part of the probe related to former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.
